New Build: Westonbirt Arboretum

Westonbirt Arboretum visitor centre entrance paving stone - Forest of Dean Pennant sandstone

Forest Pennant paving has been laid at a new £1.4 million visitor centre at the national arboretum, Westonbirt.  The welcome centre was officially opened by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, patron of the Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum.

Working with main contractor, Speller Metcalfe, Forest of Dean Stone Firms supplied 90 sqm of 50mm Forest Pennant paving and 140 sqm of 40mm Forest Pennant internal paving, 150mm wide and in random lengths.  The thickness of the internal paving was reduced by 10mm to allow for underfloor heating.  The single-storey welcome centre is constructed from UK grown Douglas fir and western red cedar.

Westonbirt Arboretum welcomes 350,000 visitors a year and covers 243 hectares, containing nearly 15,000 labelled specimens.
